I used to own a Nikon D5100 and now a proud owner of a Sony Nex F-3 (compact system camera with interchangeable lens); I couldn't be happier. A compact system camera with interchangeable lens gives superior image quality equal to any entry level DSLR camera minus half or quarter the weight; this is because they use the same lens only much more compact. The lenses available are mostly similar to the DSLR one's unless you want to be a national geographic photographer specializing in deep sea creatures, then please stop reading for this post is of no use to you.
Here are some pictures to prove my point.
The picture below was taken using the Nikon D5100 with the existing macro setting available in the camera.

Aren't they comparable in terms of image quality?
Basically what I'm trying to say is that compact system cameras with interchangeable lens is lighter, cheaper and easier to work with compared to a DSLR camera. But if your are a true photo enthusiast enjoys fiddling with the camera settings for that perfect shot then be my guest and purchase a DSLR camera. Again, this is my opinion, whats your's?
Below are some links regarding the cameras I have compared:
hear, hear! i rarely ever use my slr anymore, thanks to technology. pictures from my Galaxy Ace looks half as decent as the ones taken by the slr (with little editing here and there). i think the dslr is just one of those things that comes and goes with time.
ReplyDeleteunless of course if you're a REAL photo enthusiast. i mean in taking photos, not camwhoring. lulz. great post! ;)
True, most smart phone cameras produce pictures decent enough to be compared to pictures taken by a DSLR. I'm just glad some people agree.
DeleteBack to the title, are DSLR cameras worth their weight and price? i would say yes. These cameras have specialist lens for certain photography that makes them exquisite to certain photographers although they have to carry them around.
ReplyDeleteDepends on our kind of photography, it's better to compare them first so it will benefit us for a long time :)
great post.i think it depends on the purpose. if we are taking picture for fun, a compact system camera is enough to give you beautiful pictures. its, easy to use and good for the unprofessional user.plus, it is slimmer and lighter than the DSLR.
ReplyDeleteTrue, I mean honestly who would to lug around dead weight just for pretty pictures. Thanks for the support.
Deleteassalamualaikum farah!
ReplyDeleteinformative info for an out-dated SLR user like me ~.~
I prefer my bulky SLR more because of my passion in handling manual setting camera. It gives me full satisfaction!
however, sometimes I prefer my phone's camera better to capture meaningful moment when I'm lazy enough to take my SLR with me. :s
Wassalam, Alyaa Ali.
DeleteI salute your passion for photography, good for you. I just like to take 'selcas' LOL
Hi Farah!
ReplyDeleteI have to say that I agree with you. I used to do some saving just to own a trustworthy Canon/Nikon. I was really into DLSRs until one day I realized that I got bored with it and all those settings. I borrowed my bro's and learnt about the settings from him. I agree with Huda, it comes and goes with time. It becomes a trend for quite some time. And this one friend of mine, who is a photography enthusiast told me that she didnt use her dslr as often as she thought she would, which is kinda disappointing for her. Anyhow, it really depends on the purpose of having a camera. If you love to take photos and need to bring along anywhere you go, then the compact system camera with the interchangeable lens is for you. If you're really passionate about photography and willing to continuously learn and maybe make money out of it, then yes a dslr is for you :) just my 2 cents
Again, its all about the purpose and preference. I'm glad you understand my point of view^^
