Be a stylist!: No fashion degree required.

Salam,

Ever dreamed of styling your clothes like those fashion editorials in fashion magazines? You know, those glossy pages with clothes and shoes put together to create an outfit. Here's an example:

Well, news flash we don't need to work in a fashion magazine to create these creative pages. I present to you Polyvore !

"Polyvore is a fashion social-commerce website that allows users to assemble sets of clothing from the website's database of items. Polyvore was selected for Time Magazine's list of 50 best websites of 2011" , (Wikipedia)

It's basically a website that allows us to create different outfits using the images on their database which are actual designer items! What I mean to say is, this is not one of those paper doll games were we match their clothes; no, this is the real deal.

I find this interesting because you can create, share and comment on your outfits with other users. Its not all about fashion, if your into interior design; you too can create a collage of designs that suit your fancy.

Alright, enough talk. I'm going to show you how its done.

1. First, sign-up for an account at Polyvore

2. To create an outfit, the lingo they use is "Create set". So now, begin creating your set by dragging and dropping the images. You're able to re-size, crop, overlap and rotate images all according to your preference.

3. When your satisfied with your outfit, then go ahead and publish it. You can even update it to facebook and twitter. Go ahead and share your ideas. Then, here is the finished outfit.

4. Since, the outfits are actual designer pieces they even have the prices attached to them. I'm not saying we should be them, think of these outfits you've created as fashion inspirations.

Personally, I think this is an interactive approach to fashion and gives us the opportunity to create our own trends. It's definitely a fun way to waste time, that's for sure!

*Polyvore has been around for quite some time now but whenever I asked somebody about this site nobody seem to here about it. How about you, have any of you heard about it?

So, what are your thoughts on this site?

1. It worth the time and day?
2. Do you think its cool?
3. Is it inspiring?
4. Is it informative?

  1. Me! :) I did sign up for polyvore account. I've created some sets but I didn't publish them because of my ridiculous fashion sense haha. I made the account just for fun and I'll be creating sets when I'm bored. Some of friends also have this polyvore account and one of them frequently update her set.

    To answer your Qs:

    1) Yesss,definitely!
    2) Yep, it's cool.. I mean I could not afford any of those in the real world so let's have them virtually, lol.
    3) It is! I'm no good in fashion but I love to see other people's sets :)
    4) I love how the prices are shown in MYR, so i'd say its kinda informative for those who are interested to buy.

    1. I totally agree, I mean you want to shop for something new but you always end up buying the same style but in another color.

At least with this site, you can have like a vision of what would totally look good on you^^

It's an awesome site to play around with but it ain't fun when the wifi is slow. Do give it a try when the wifi is fast enough...
